see ya later tonsils, adios adenoids

At 3 months, E's pedi commented on how big his tonsils were. At his 2 year well visit, she commented again at how enlarged they were and asked us if he was a big snorer.  He has ALWAYS snored VERY loudly. She wasn't overly concerned but said that she would reevaluate when he turned 3 on whether or not she thought we should visit an ENT. A few months later we noticed how his breathing was *louder* and he began choking on random foods. He even turned purple during one choking episode. So at Sawyers 2 month well visit, I took E along with me and had her take another look at his tonsils and told her of his new symptoms. She felt that an ENT visit was needed and made us an appointment for a few weeks later.

At the ENT, there wasn't much evaluating to be done. One look inside his mouth, and Dr. W expressed how HUGE his tonsils were. He told us that he had seen big tonsils, huge tonsils, and even giant tonsils but E's tonsils were GINORMOUS. He said he could also tell how large they were by the sound of E's breathing and the way his tiny voice was very nasally. Surgery to remove his tonsils and adenoids was scheduled for two weeks later.

The surgery itself was very quick but he had to be put to sleep which is very scary when it comes to anyone much less your not quite 2 1/2 year old. He did great and immediately you could tell a difference in his voice and the way he breathed. It was SOOOO weird to hear him talk for the first time because it was so different from what we had been use to. Recovery was fairly smooth with lots of lovin' and ice cream :)
